The Role

We're looking for a Program Associate to help scout, identify, and support early adopters who partner with Tropical Fire to deploy the multidimensional wildfire management model from pilot to scale. Responsibilities will evolve, and we are looking for flexible team members with a positive, can-do attitude.

About Tropical Fire Alliance

Tropical Fire Alliance is a new initiative working with in-country partners to stop tropical forests from burning—and return them to their critical role as carbon sinks. Tropical Fire is scaling a successful model across the world's three major tropical forest blocks, with a 10-year goal to cut tropical wildfires in half by supporting forest communities and implementing partners (non-governmental organizations) to protect forest areas and local livelihoods.

 

Key Responsibilities

Partner sourcing 

• Source potential partner organizations. 

• Investigate and screen prospective partner organizations.

• Evaluate prospective partner landscape wildfire history and trends.

 

Support Partner Assessment and Onboarding

• Build profiles on prospective partners.

• Track partner progress from lead to onboarded.

• Conduct market surveys of equipment requested by partners.

• Support partner equipment acquisition. 

 

Risk & compliance

• Monitor partner compliance with policy, financial, and reporting requirements.

• Flag and manage risks (political, environmental, operational) affecting partner sites.

• Conduct due diligence on partner financial health, safeguarding policies, and past performance.

 

Education and experience

• A minimum of one year of experience working with an environmental or conservation NGO

• Bachelor's degree

Working with the Team

The Project Associate reports to the Program Manager.

Compensation

$25-30 per hour, commensurate with experience (based on a full-time 40-hour work week)
