Welcome to the Association for Fire Ecology of the Tropics

The Association for Fire Ecology of the Tropics (AFET) is a section of the Association for Fire Ecology (AFE) focused on fire-ecosystem interaction throughout the tropics. The scope of our activities and membership is intended to be broad. Although fire is understood to have historically been present in tropical ecosystems, it is recognized that human activity has dramatically altered the frequency, intensity and overall impact of fire within these ecosystems.

As such, AFET is intended to address fire-related human activity as well as biotic responses to fire. The overall goals of AFET are to foster both scientific research and the dissemination of fire-related information so as to improve global understanding of tropical fire ecology and how it affects and is affected by human populations.
